This morning we held a security meeting with a team led by the county commissioner regarding the recent spate of terrorism attacks in the county. Generally we agreed to work together to avoid the security lapses that led to the series of bloody incidences. In the afternoon, members of parliament Hon. Adiaziz Ali Farah, Hon. Eng. Mohamed Mohamud, Hon. Shaaban Ali, Hon Mohamed Abdow, Hon Hassan Osman, the Hon. Senator Billow Kerrow and I had a meeting with the religious leaders. The Ulamas expressed their dissatisfaction with the recent terror attacks in the county and agreed to play their religious role effectively. This is the start of a series of meetings with the key stakeholders in the county. In shaa Allah tomorrow we shall engage the elders, Women and thereafter the youth. On Monday we will hold a joint public Baraza to seek lasting solution to the current challenges we face as a county. We need the public to understand their responsibility in the fight against terrorism. Our objective is also to sensitize them on how negatively the recent terrorist attacks have impacted on major development projects. As we speak, all the ongoing development projects in Mandera town particularly the road works, the construction of the county headquarters, the county assembly, Moi Stadium and the county restaurant have stalled. This is a result of the mass exodus of the technical personnel supervising these projects. We have also lost 50 health workers and as a result 20 health centers closed down. Over 150 teachers are seeking for transfers from TSC. This is to mention but a few of the losses we are counting at the moment. We really need to stand up and look at ways of firmly engaging these terrorists.
