This not a rant about Soundwave! This is however my view on Soundwave as a mere outsider, regular concert goer. Soundwave imo is an overpriced standing in the stinking Australian heat in the midst of summer to see maybe a few bands here and there I could and generally have seen on their bills whether it a Sidewave or album tour, whilst being bombarded by a tonne of bands I do not like or enjoy. Soundwave fails to give a lot of Australian bands whom are worthy REGARDLESS of genre the chance to reach out en masse to untapped audiences that generally dont attend local gigs and hence dont know about said bands. Metal bands that actually DO play Soundwave are not any less metal by playing said event! If the band still pays its regular set, songs etc in the same manner you as a metal fan and said fan of band enjoy ie: they dont censor or water down their set and start playing top 40 music...theyre getting paid to play METAL! How is that selling out ??? Are metal bands meant to just be unemployed or forever working in menial employment to facilitate their passion and not play festivals that may give them a chance to make it a fulltime thing deemed they be called sellouts..? Look at the bands who live off their creativity, are they any less metal? Eg Iron Maiden, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Judas Priest are but a few Ill throw out there whom are living off their music. Believing such idiotic notions is akin to saying all bands are shit after their second album *facepalm If you enjoy Soundwave then go forth and enjoy, just dont shit on the few metal bands that do and have played on the bill...thats their pay! Thats how a touring band makes a living without compromising their sound
