This on-going debate on Arvind Kejriwals incarceration and his refusal to pay bail has brought the focus on this unfair bail bond system, which is victimizing the poor worldwide. How can a poor person give bond for Rs 10,000 when he doesnt own that much amount / asset? Should she/he languish in jail while lower courts take many years to complete the trail? Especially the case is as small as Rs. 200 theft and worse, if the person is innocent? Here is one such example: After being denied bail once, he was granted bail three months ago, but did not have the Rs 10,000 in property needed for a bail bond. Shamsuddin changed his initial not-guilty plea to a guilty plea when he learnt that his father had passed away two days ago. Ill say I am guilty. I just want to get out. I just want to go home to my village, he whispered to his lawyer.
