This past Sunday was my Dad’s birthday. It was the first one since he passed away last September. Needless to say, that sucked. Since he died, one of things I wanted to do was work up an obituary for him that would be a little more than the typical 2 inch box that just gave his dates and relationships. What kind of thing would he want me to do? What kind of guy was he? I settled on the idea that he would want me to do something funny and maybe a little badass. (Hopefully, the rest of the family feels the same way. They’re cool though, so I’m not too worried.) That little idea has turned into a much longer project. There are plenty of ways that I could tell the story of how much we all miss him, or how much he meant to us. But, he wouldn’t want me whining about it. So, a few weeks ago, I met with our graphics department and producers and told them the idea. I wrote up something that I thought he would like, and I asked them to make it look badass. This weekend is the season premiere of the Wonderful World of Stu, and we’ll show the process and the final product. The idea was essentially make it look like a commercial for a person. We wanted to make it look like one of those old 70’s beer ads that you’d see in a magazine. One day, after we’re all gone, maybe I’ll get to ask him if he liked it. I think he would.
