This post is for all our friends and customers in Anacortes. Im passing along a message from Transition Fidalgo & Friends on how you can green your own energy use, support independent renewable energy producers, AND help Anacortes earn up to $40,000 toward a solar project. Read on ... Have you heard? Anacortes has a special role to play in PSE’s 2013 Green Power Challenge Program. (Were one of 5 challenge cities, competing against Bainbridge Island, Kirkland, Snoqualmie, and Tumwater). Each city has its own goal toward earning a $20,000 solar grant and the city that enrolls the highest percentage of new participants compared to the other four will benefit from $20,000 more! Snoqualmie has taken the overall lead for the bonus grant, growing its Green Power participants by 3.99%. For Anacortes to reach over 4%, we need to increase net participation by about 144 enrollments (gross participation would be higher, at about 165). By the end of December. Yes, its late in the game but we can do this! We should all be signed up for Green Power, and urging friends to sign up. Anacortes has met its individual goal and earned a $20,000 solar grant from PSE. Now its time to score that bonus $20,000 grant. How about a holiday gift for our community? Help Anacortes green up with solar! HOW can I sign up? Go to pse/savingsandenergycenter/GreenPower/Pages/For-Homes.aspx to sign up. Do you need to live in Anacortes to participate? No. You just need a 98221 zip code. Also, if youll be at the Christmas Tree Lighting this Friday (6 PM at the Chamber building) PSE will be there to collect enrollments. The Green Power program is voluntary, requires no contracts, and you can cancel at anytime. It costs as little as $4 more per month above standard utility rates to offset a portion of your electricity, $10-12 to offset 100% of the average homes usage. The environmental benefit is equivalent to taking a car off the road for a year (based on the EPA’s Green Power Equivalency Calculator). WHY should I sign up? When you choose Green Power, you’re supporting clean energy from renewable sources like wind, biogas and the sun. By increasing the amount of power generated from renewable resources you: Reduce the nations dependence on fossil fuels - real homeland security rests in renewable energy! Help to build or buy a wider range of renewable energy sources in our region Raise community awareness about the benefits of green power so that it becomes readily available and at a lower cost. Already signed up? You can still help by spreading the word! This is critical. Forward this email, refer a friend, or share the challenge on social media—let others know why locally-produced, renewable energy matters. More about the Green Power Program: The Green Power Program purchases renewable energy generated by wind, solar, landfill gas and agricultural waste. When you make your contribution of $4 to $12 a month, PSE buys clean energy on your behalf from independent producers in our region. Your commitment to purchase green power makes it possible for these energy innovators to secure funding, sustain their businesses and create jobs—making a brighter, cleaner future for everyone. PSE does not make a profit from the Green Power Program. All revenue goes back to further support independent resource projects and grow voluntary demand for cleaner energy options. Thank you for helping Anacortes meet this challenge!
