This song broke me tonight. I always had in my mind that my all time favorite Christmas song was some Johnny Mathis song, Oh Holy Night actually. That song because in my mind not only do I love the older Christmas tunes, not only do I love Johnny Mathis, that particular song and the way Johnny sings that song, but because of my parents history with Mathis. Their first date my father took my mom dancing the song that played was Misty by Johnny Mathis - my ornery, dashing player pops whispered in my moms ear that the song always reminded him of his ex-girlfriend.... Mom Was hooked. Then I took a stupid Zimbio quiz tonight to see what my Christmas song would be and The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole came back as my answer. Nailed it... How could I have ever forgotten? Forgotten mom putting this record on our huge ass console to listen to while we ate fondue and chilled shrimp with eye wateringly hot cocktail sauce on Christmas Eve. Dad singing along in his rich deep voice. This song IS my Christmas Story. #Evocative. #Nostalgiainducing.
