This song hasnt left me alone since I first heard it during the movie Punjab 1984. In a heart rending but majesting 5 minutes Raj Ranjodh Singh has managed to capture the human tragedy of our bleeding Panjab. It takes more than a superior linguistic command to conjur a song that takes the listener on a heart breaking journey...it takes empathy and a heart with the depth of an ocean. Tell the river that flows in my village that I will take a dip once more....as I return in an urn reduced to ashes However I think the reason why this song has tormented me so much is that it dawned on me, that those poor souls that returned as ashes were actually the lucky ones. Those souls that were scattered in the river by the hands of their loved ones were fortunate. Such was the scale of devilish brutality by the Indian State. Props to you my Veer Raj Ranjodh Singh, may your pen continue to deliver such beautiful songs. https://m.youtube/watch?v=YescWieG1LQ
