This story is true. It is recorded in safety aviation vancouver canada 1974. Cf-idh. In 74 i was 18. Both my father and i are pilots. My father is still in good health. He is an atheist. I will give the atheist version. My father took first seat. The plane is a small antique tandem seating. No radio. No adf. Gps wasnt popular yet. No navigational equipment. Just a compass. It flies about 100 miles an hr.we took off from delta air park. We flew east following the mud bay shoreline. Open ocean is in the south. We were going to look at the volcano in washington. Mount baker. There was a loud concussion explosion. A brilliant white light. The plane flew sideways for a few seconds. (in my forehead i could see a flashcard that said help). My father flew due south into open sea. A little plane with limited fuel and navigational aids. Where were we going. What for? I pulled out the only 2 floater jackets. What for?. We had no idea where we were going. We knew exactly where we were going. Nothing indicated anything but we knew. Didnt even reconasience the area. You dont live long in that water. Now the plane is on the deck literaly. I pried the door open against the wind. I could see the waves hitting the landing gear. Sea spray in my face. Nothing to hang on to i climbed out up to my waist. I could see the mans hands and face in the water i threw the jacket directly into his hands. We made a turn and did the same thing with another man. We had just thrown out our own life jackets. The chinook copter arrived a little later. They survived. The news said it was a crashed twin. I couldnt believe what had happened. I drove to the airport in vancouver a month later. I walked into the safety office. I said was there a sea rescue a month ago south of mud bay. All the typewriters stopped. He said yes there was are you the one that was rescued. I said no i wasnt the one rescued. Im the one that rescued them. Still total silence. I said if you dont mind ill go home now.
