This story just got weirder and weirder yesterday. I think the problem is that we have very low-paid people who are given a list of rules to follow, and who cling to those rules for fear of making a mistake. If the rules say no baby sippy cups or no tubes of toothpaste, then they duly confiscate those things, however minimal the risk. But an over-reliance on rules leads to a lack of common sense. You literally cant see the pipe bombs, if youre so focused on confiscating Yop and manicure scissors. (Also, I cant help but feel that if this kids name was Salman Mohahmmed, not Skylar Murphy, the reaction might have been very different.) Was this teen a bomber? Did he intend to do harm? I dont think so. I think this was a case of dumb, dumber, and dumbest. But I dont know that I would blame the screeners, as much as the rules that blinded them. edmontonjournal/news/edmonton/Source+says+video+shows+Edmonton+airport+security+staff/9391750/story.html
