This video shows some training being done with another service dog were working with, Rex. The challenge Rex will have is that his charge is mostly non-verbal. That means that Rex wont be given commands and will need to learn how to obey and listen to a young child who wont be giving him any commands, signals, or instruction. For us, training Rex has been a big lesson in non-verbal communication and just what it takes to get a dog to be obedient without receiving a lot of guidance. The good news is that Rex is doing well. Even as my daughter tries to be a bit erratic Rex is paying attention and following along. When she stops he stops and looks to her to gauge the next step. Rexs transition to his new home will take a lot of work but hes doing great at learning his tasks.
