This was a challenging stone, a rough piece of Russian - TopicsExpress

This was a challenging stone, a rough piece of Russian Astrophyllite. I tried to keep the wrap simple, using a basic weave to frame the stone. Astrophyllite typically forms as radiating patterns in the aggregates. It gets its name, from the Greek word astron meaning star. I really love the contrast of the white felspar found with this piece. Its crystals are really beautiful although the picture doesnt show this very well. This piece of Astrophyllite was not cut into a cabochon, it was chuncky and uneven, soft and fragile. I had to be very careful when wrapping it.
