This was a friend of Moms for 58 years and the person I called Aunt Carol. Hall, Carol (Metzler) 74 Carol Ann (Metzler) Hall died on March 30 ,2014 At her home in Southwest Harbor. She was born on September 7, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York, the only child of George and Florence (Elmendorf) Metzler. She grew up in Rockville Centre, N. Y. A graduate of Syracuse University in 1961, with a major in fine art, she worked in Manhattan as an art director, and later as an editor, for a number of publications including a textile and fabric magazine and the publication of the American Contract Bridge League. She created and sewed beautiful quilts and wall hangings, which she both sold and gave to friends. She also designed and made her own ornaments and Christmas cards. At Syracuse Carol met Meredith Rich - later Meredith Hutchins - and they became close friends, writing and visiting back and forth between Southwest Harbor and New York whenever possible. Then in 1976 she married Harold N. Hall of Rockville Centre and in 1985 the couple moved to Southwest Harbor Maine, where they built a home and became integral part of the community. Mr. Hall is a descendant of Sgt. William Harlow, whose family homestead, built in 1677, is on the National Register of Historic Places. He and Carol have been active members of the Harlow Family Association, which has restored and maintains the Harlow Old Fort House in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Carol also served as a member of the board of trustees of the Southwest Harbor Public Library and worked on the librarys biennial garden tour committee. She did the calligraphy for the library book of memorial gifts. She also served as secretary of the town Harbor Committee for a number of years. An avid detective story devotee, in 1988, she gave a well-received talk on P. D. James at a library book discussion series meeting. Those who wish may make gifts in her memory to the Southwest Harbor Public Library, P. O. Box 157, Southwest Harbor, or to the charity of their choice. Services will be announced at a later date.
