This was an amazing experience for me, especially as someone obsessed with spectralist and electroacoustic music. The cellist wore an EEG headset to play music with auditory manifestations of her brain waves. little flourishes of harmonics right at the bottom of the fingerboard, giving them a nice frosted-glass fogginess. This had a lilt to it, a beat, flickering lights of color. As the music went on, the meldings became more intense, the electronics and cello inextricable. I got the impression that the room was dense with timbres, most of which I was incapable of picking up with my human auditory equipment. The cello fades out like an electronic blip. The sequence of words — Violence-Birth-Love — is seared in my memory. Violence — I twitched and shivered at the intensity of the sounds I was hearing, I tried (did I try, or was I forced?) to feel violent, and I did. Birth — fleeting. Love — tender, but less descript than Violence. Red, yellow, green, blue, coming and going. White words projected on black wall, shifting at Katinka’s discretion. What was she thinking? What did she think of when she experienced the words? kunst-musik.tumblr/post/100301715775/katinka-kleijn-cello-intelligence-in-the
