This was and still is my favorite building in the city i am from. The clubhouse was designed by Bertram Goodhue of the architectural firm of Cram, Goodhue and Ferguson of New York City in 1919. Nationally famous, this firm also counted among its designs the imposing structures of West Point Military Academy and numerous important churches along the East Coast of the United States. Today you have to be invited to be a member but they do not base it on race gender or religion. Back in the day...you had to be white and Protestant. How times have changed. My father didnt want to be a member but his company was so he had to give dinners there and use the membership they gave him to entertain clients from out of state. My Father told me a story today about a dinner he gave there and the person who was being honored was from Germany. My stepmother in dinner conversation asked him if he was in WW2 . He said he was ...but he said....we didnt have a choice either. My stepmother was fuming since her husband was killed in that war by the Germans. Interesting story.
