This was emailed to me from LISD: Lubbock ISD Parents and Staff- Widespread media reports today regarding a possible Ebola case in Lubbock generated a great deal of concern within the community. Rumors and misinformation contributed to the anxiety. Within several hours, it was determined the patient did NOT have Ebola. No LISD students were ever at risk. The health and safety of our students and staff are the utmost priority in Lubbock ISD. Lubbock ISD has a plan in place for communicable diseases and began developing new procedures to minimize Ebola risk as soon as the first case was diagnosed in Texas. LISD administration will continue to be in close contact with local health officials. While an isolated case of Ebola is possible among family, friends or medical workers associated with an infected person, widespread cases are unlikely. The Lubbock ISD Web site has a new link on the front page with information regarding Ebola, its transmission and ways to speak about it to children. Also included are new LISD enrollment guidelines and official information on recent events in Lubbock. It is important that as these media reports continue to come, we remain calm and make decisions based on fact. Please check the LISD Web site for accurate and timely information.
