This was the speech my daughters beautiful maid of honor gave at her wedding. I hope you enjoy this as much as I still do. For those of you who don’t know me, I am Amanda. Megan and I met in the Navy while we were stationed on the USS Ronald Reagan in 2009. We have been the best of friends for five years, which seem like 15 years. We didn’t grow up together from childhood, we didn’t go to the same schools, have sleep overs, and we never had the opportunity to fight over boys, like typical besties. What we did do is even more spectacular. We had a comradeship and a sense of sisterhood in the Navy. Together, we helped defend our battle group from enemies, we trained how to save each others lives, we were each others family in the middle of the ocean. Without even having to say so, we had each others back. Megan was there for me when the tsunami wave that hit Japan traveled right under the ship and towards the California coast. She helped me stay positive and strong, knowing my babies were in California. What we did do is stand countless hours of watches to minimize the exposure and protect each other from radiation poisioning from Tomadachi when we aided Japan during their nuclear meltdown. We sacrificed priceless hours of sleep to keep each other calm and sane. Most of those priceless hours included being gym buddies, with a little but of line dancing for good measure afterwards. In foreign countries, we entrusted each other with our lives as soon as we stepped off of the ship and into unfamiliar territory. You are the best friend a girl could ever ask for. You have always been there for me, and I will ALWAYS be there for you. A wise woman once told me that some people are meant to be in your life for a few weeks, a few months, maybe a season or two, or even years. I know god crossed our paths with the intention of us being friends for a lifetime, and I will forever be grateful. And I know God crossed you and Ryan’s path with the determination of you both being together for a lifetime. I love you Megan! You were there for me in my most trying and complicated days in my entire life. Our friendship has helped me be the better person I am today. I don’t know where I would be without my best friend, but I do know that standing here today... on your wedding day ... is exactly where I’m supposed to be. I want to thank you and Ryan for choosing me to be apart of the first day that marks the rest of your life together as Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Kulak been an honor to be your maid of honor. If everyone can raise a glass now and join me in congratulating the very beautiful bride and handsome groom on the day we have all been waiting soooo long for! Cheers!
