This was written by my wife, Theresa Riley Moore: WARNING: Restricted Audience. Anyone under the age of 42 must be accompanied by someone who can explain the significance of the content discussed and the music shared. It is true. My husband and I are officially middle aged. The rite of passage? the transformation of the Dollar General Store into our weekend get-away destination. We stopped by the one on East Main Street just to pick up a few things. That is a phrase the kids used to dread. My son especially hated it. There was no electronics department like Wal-Mart, or comic books like the PDQs had when he was in his early teens, but it was my quiet little happy place; the place where I would mill around and contemplate life while sniffing from the hair conditioner bottles, and the jugs of fabric softer (the yellow Suavitel was my favorite.) Tonight I was thinking about buying some dryer sheets to stuff under my pretty bathroom hand towels in order to make it smell nice in there. It had been a long time since I last bought any, because they tend to make spots on knit shirts, so I was squeezing all of the little boxes and sniffing the little whiff of air that rushed out. Then I came across the DG brand boxes, and I as I sniffed I was suddenly taken back in time to around 1980. The smell was a type of shampoo that was really popular at the time. I hollered at my husband to come sniff the box. He recognized the scent, too. It wasnt exactly a great scent, but it was unique. I am thinking, Wella Balsam? No. Breck? No. Silkience? No. Then Artie says Prell? I say No. Then suddenly I shouted Its Agree! Remember, Beat the greasies with Agree? Oh that does smell like Agree, he said. The mystery had been solved, and we both were laughing and really too amused. There was this little brunette worker that kept passing us casting suspicious glances as we huffed the dryer sheets. Then Artie started singing this song from our child hood days and we drove home and are currently living happily ever after. https://youtube/watch?v=KqzGREKWzus
