This week I attended the FA Medical Societys first meet of the season. Subject: CONCUSSION I am delighted that The FA are finally taking concussion seriously, and rules have changed at elite level meaning that the medic/doctors decision is final; if they suspect the player is concussed, the player must be taken off for further assessment, or for the rest of the game. The manager/coaches/player cannot overrule them! This is great at elite level, but grass roots football generally doesnt have the luxury of a qualified medic or doctor pitch side, so The FA have a new campaign to educate all levels: Use Your Head. If youre involved in football at ANY level, please read the guidelines, watch the video, and make sure you have the pocket concussion recognition tool form in your kit bag, and use it! No medic around? If in doubt, leave them out!
