This week has been a time of reflection, a time when I was taken - TopicsExpress

This week has been a time of reflection, a time when I was taken back to innocence, childhood and carefree days. Unfortunately the circumstances that took me to those memories, was, as is often the case a tragedy, and loss of someone that left us too soon. A childhood neighbor, friend, teammate decided that he had enough and took his life. David Goodman, as illustrated in Facebook posts, was a friend to many, greeting everyone with a smile, ready with encouragement, armed with competitiveness and infusing any situation with life. That, perhaps, is why I ache. I was a friend to David but not as close as those I share this sense of loss. I last saw David two years ago when he joined me for a round of golf. As it was with David on the golf course, I was outclassed in talent but built up with encouraging words and advice. Perhaps my lasting memory, or how I will choose to remember David, will be his reaction to me bouncing not one, but two golf balls off a house lining the eighth fairway of the Country Club of Salisbury. As the ball left the clubface somewhere right of center of the clubface it was soon evident by David’s crouching posture with his hand by his ear waiting for the sound of broken glass that I had hit a less than desirable shot, not once, but twice. That was the beauty of Goody. As a friend but not a confidant, he still made me feel good, made me laugh, and left me with memories. The other lesson I have learned this week is that I love the people, friends and family of the town I come from, Salisbury, NC. It is a unique and special place and one that, shame on me, I often take for granted. When I see friends and family next week as we remember, honor, laugh, cry, wonder and hope in honor of David, I want to let you know that I Love You.
