This week has been a very busy but productive week. We had a good council mtg on Monday and want to emphasize the Womens Under 18 World Championship Bid. Barry Reynard our Director of Community Services did an outstanding job of putting the bid together with the staff. Very fortunate to have someone with his skill and contacts working for our City. The conference in Prince George on Wednesday-Thursday was full of interesting sessions and a ton of contacts for me to follow up with as we move forward in our economic development. Will be heading south again very shortly to follow up on a couple of contacts who are looking to establish themselves in the North East and asked for follow-up meetings. Met yesterday with Representatives of the Natural Gas Industry who are working in our city. I wanted to follow-up with them on a couple of initiatives I feel we need to discuss moving forward in 2014 and beyond. Both meetings were very helpful in continuing to expand the level of communication with a industry partners. I also have a meetings scheduled next week with Ryan McIvor as I want to start to leverage the EnCana Events Center in hosting Business leaders from across the province into our community and showcase the world class entertainment that comes to our city. I am going to start working on an initiative to put together a Business summit with our local business community and invite business leaders from across BC and Alberta to attend our city and me et with our business community and our city. Met a gentleman in PG who felt this would be an excellent opportunity and wants to get involved. Think it is worthwhile to explore. Meeting with a couple of local business people next week to talk about my idea on the downtown revitalization. Also meeting next week with the Economic Development Committee to discuss the Citys promotional video I want to update. We also have started to put together the results of our report to council on our meetings with investors, developers, and realtors. We will have some recommendations coming forward on the issue of In law, companion suites. Looking forward to moving this issue forward with council. Man the weather has certainly changed the dynamics of our public works folks!! Going head down, bum up and hair straight back on snow removal for over a month and then right into steaming the culverts and storm drains to ensure we manage the water. Kind of worried about the culverts etc freezing up and then what that might mean for us in a month or so when spring does arrive. We got the most amazing gesture from a citizen who dropped off some Tim Hortons gift cards thanking our public works staff for their hard work:):) You gotta love our city. We arranged to provide some tickets for the staff to attend a concert in recognition of their hard work in keeping the roads done during the heavy snowfall. I think that is all for this week and it was a very good week. Loved the Judy Kucharuk article she did on my use of facebook and twitter, the feedback has been so positive on these posts that I am going to continue using the site a feedback tool. My thoughts and prayers to a family in our area who suffered a tragedy this past week.
