This week makes it 14 years since I huddled in a courtroom and endured a 4 day custody trial. It took another two weeks for the judge to send us the results. There is no other anniversary that makes me want to stop, and pay myself respect. But what I did before and during that trial was the hardest and bravest things that I have ever done. It is fairly rare for the best interest of the children to be such a clear thing - for all the experts, including those hired by the other side, to line up on one side. My ex filed the motion, asking for my parental rights to be virtually terminated. Instead, I was granted full and virtually unfettered custody of them.
