This week we hit 13 years that our family has dealt with type 1 - TopicsExpress

This week we hit 13 years that our family has dealt with type 1 diabetes in our house. My daughter has dealt with it with total grace and style. Since then we have had 2 more diagnosis, including myself. My only desire in life is for someone to cure this disease. Not add another thing to make life easier. Cure this shit. There are many people out there going through trials and tribulations due to health complications, and I do not make light of any of that. I know there are people out there that have it worse than us. But with that said, you have no idea what our family goes through on a day to day basis, not only mentally with the worry that goes along with this, but financially also. We typically do not complain, save for an eff diabetes every now and then. But man, walk a mile in our shoes...or any of the hundreds of other families we have become close to as a result of this common bond. Do not take for granted just being able to eat a meal. Do not take for granted just being able to let your kids go to a sleep over at a friends house. Do not take for granted just letting your kids go outside and play in the neighborhood. Do not take for granted your kids going to school without worry. Do not take for granted letting your kids sleep in late, or going to sleep at all for that matter. Do not take for granted all of the simple things in life you do without worry. I wish I had all of that freedom. I wish I did not have to second guess every decision I make and whether or not I may be putting my child in harms way because I did not count carbs correctly or did not pay close enough attention to how much or what they ate. I wish my kids did not have to feel awkward or have to listen to people ask stupid questions when they see them eat something as simple as ice cream. Or what is that attached to you? Is that a cell phone? I.AM.OVER.IT.
