This weeks reflection is on moving forward. In the martial arts we are taught that it is much more effective to move forward in a sparring and combat situations than moving backward. Moving forward gives the practitioner more opportunities to catch an opponent off guard with techniques. In the beginning the student may get hit more moving forward but soon learns how to deal with it and learns how to move to counteract this problem. Moving backward gives us less opportunity and makes us vulnerable to attack. It’s a simple formula displayed in almost every match you see. Life is the same way. The people that keep moving forward are the ones that become the most successful in life. Successful at dealing with all of lifes ups and downs. Sure they get hit now and then but they learn how to handle it. They move on, adapt, learn the lesson, and grow as a person. The other end of the spectrum are the people that are always looking back. “If I just would have done this, I should have done that, I wish I had the chance to do that over” These people live in fear, anxiety, and grief with a constant reminder of all their failures. They are always looking back instead of setting a goal and moving on in life. Remember fear stops us, holds us in place, and forces us to regress. Form the habit today of moving forward and stop looking back, you are not going that way! Thanks for reading.
