This whole scheme is sending Australia straight to the bottom of a moral morass, but lets not think of that. Lets think of what it is doing to human beings, and try hard to imagine what a decent government would say about asylum seekers. That theyre not wealthy queue-jumpers who are country-shopping but brave people escaping with their lives. We need leadership on this, not the fascist demonising that were getting from our major political parties, who have been pandering to the fear and racism for their own political ends. If theyre worried about people-smugglers there are other ways of dealing with that because its a crime. If theyre worried about people drowning they can help them. I am heartsick about all this and all the horrific hypocrisy that goes with it.
