This will be a long one, I warn you. You do not have to read it. We often are quite skeptical of how horrible the world is, it definitely is, and we all seem to want to change it, yet no change takes place. Also, to be honest, I believe this situation is probably the best we could do with the West holding global dominance. I will probably elaborate on that in a different post in the future. Anyhow, why doesnt change take place? Lets look on the national levels for now. Were pretty much living in human civilizations that are based on - and are dependent on- the schizophrenic and narcissistic nature of each of us, which really explains so many illogical phenomena that we can see, the most important of which -for its obvious impact- is what can be described in this phrase How the hell can people still believe the media?! Whats wrong with them?!. Schizophrenia and narcissism, two completely contradicting states of mind, that may contradict theoretically, but practically on the social level may complete each other, that is to sum it all. Psychiatrists describe schizophrenics as suffering from a disastrous inability to notice irrelevant stimuli, they are condemned to process external information wether they like it or not, as their brains fail to focus and select what piece of information to attend to in what is called stimulus overinclusion. The schizophrenic would describe the symptom as: things just happen to me and I just seem to not have a say or control of what I think about or do. On the other side we have the narcissistic, a person who is constantly worried about his image, afraid of how hed be perceived with every single action hes taking, and everything ends up being related to him, if it couldnt be related to him, it doesnt matter. Simply put, this person is absolutely not self-conscious. For him, everything has no value in itself, unless (you guessed it) it corresponds to his rigid self-centered view of the world, and I underline the word rigid, twice. But what does that have to do with it all? Well, if you do not see the connection yet, allow me to elaborate. Imagine a group of people coming together, they instantly start to know each other, and with time form a group identity, together they have more chance for survival after all. Wether its in a Hunter-gatherer system or in a modern civilised state (developed or developing), its still the same. Now this group is pretty much bound to end up becoming narcissistic, why? Because individuals within a group naturally want the best interests of themselves, and their group, it is purely for the sake of survival. If no principles were put that entail the extreme respect of those that differ from us, we respond in the idiotic thats so weird way, as if we have the right to judge people based on our values. Instead, we develop nationalism and patriotism, and it becomes quite natural to be patriotic. It is not only accepted, but is encouraged; if youre not proud of who you are, youre an enemy. We are better than everyone else. I hope that picture was painted well. Now imagine that most people in this place where schizophrenics as well, they cannot focus, they cannot organize their own thoughts. Add to that the lack of education (in terms of critical thinking) and other internal and external factors, and you end up with people with chaotic minds. Imagine being in the center of a tornado trying to catch and compile a bunch flying papers, this is how hard it is to form an opinion in such a mind. So how do those people make up opinions? If you havent guessed it already, its the external credible sources, and what is more credible than the media and the experts that do not only analyse my issues for me, but promote my core narcissistic points continuously? Add to that rigidity, and you have a society that is - evolutionary speaking- bound to collapse on itself. We are all suffering from a social pathology, those that accept the system live with no purpose, or at least not theirs, while those that want to change themselves and their world for the better end up being alienated, they can make their own opinions based on what they see, and unlike the society that is based on what the ancestors have seen, they develop their own goals, that easily do not go hand in hand with their societys. They are suppressed, oppressed, abused, and exploited. The end result? Conflict, no development, social collapse are some among many. So whos fault is it? Its pretty much everyones, or no ones; a natural consequence to human nature, that is what it is, or so Id like to believe. So how can we change that? What is to come next? What are those external and internal factors mentioned? What can a single individual do? Im quite unsure of the answers to those questions and many others with my relatively schizophrenic mind, but Im quite sure its not to give up on the world . My apologies for the long semi-academic writing method. :) #The_Meaningless
