This year in early December, Transport Canada sent a representative to the North Pole for a semi-regular inspection. The inspector spent time going over all Santas paperwork: the maintenance records for the sleigh. the reindeer food paperwork, the vet records, Santas medical documents and his vision checks, the extremely complicated weight and balance calculations and records, even the survey of the sleighs runway. The Inspector had completed all this and Santa and his elves came through with flying colours. Next the inspector told Santa that the only remaining thing was a short check ride to make sure Santa was a good a pilot as he ever was. The inspector sat in the office and watched Santa go through a full B check. Santa checked the sleigh, talked to every reindeer, and confirmed that every switch, harness and bolt was perfect. The sleigh maintenance elves and the reindeer caretaker elves had, like every year, done a perfect job and all was in order. Santa was patiently sitting in the sleigh waiting for the Transport Canada inspector to join him when he saw the agent walking towards the sleigh. The inspector had a simple clipboard in one hand, a big flashlight hanging from his belt, and a shotgun under one arm. Santa raised an eyebrow and said to the inspector, Whats with the shotgun? The inspector looked around and said in a quite conspiratorial tone to Santa Well were really not supposed to tell you in advance, but were going to see how you handle losing an engine on take off.
