Thought for the Day: I just finished Alexander Hamilton by Ron - TopicsExpress

Thought for the Day: I just finished Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow!! FINALLY!!!! Clocking in at 731 pages- NOT including footnotes and Acknowledgements, it is an extremely thorough, but exceedingly long book. Here is my assessment: Overall it is excellent. It goes into an enormous amount of detail about this great man, his life, family, rise to power and all his great accomplishments which formed the foundation of the United States of America, our financial and economic system, as well as our Constitution and system of government. Hamiltons contributions to us- and the world- cannot be understated. He was a genius, a visionary, a tireless worker, author, financier and public servant. It is fair to say we would not have the America we know today without Hamilton. John Marshall considered him one of the greatest men of his era. Chernow has done a tremendous job with this book. He has enlightened readers as to the noteworthy accomplishments of his often overlooked and underappreciated Founding Father. For that, I give him very high marks- an A, perhaps even an A+. One criticism- although he is a gifted writer whose words flow easily from each page to the reader, Chernow tends to dwell in unending detail on each item he discusses. The book could easily have shaved off 50- 100 pages and not diminished the story one bit. That aside, I have formed the foundation of my understanding of Hamilton with Chernows work and will treasure it forever... Now I have several other books on Hamilton to read!! https://youtube/watch?v=-PPR70C4RNY
