Thought for the Day: TIME TO SIP (Read Psalm 63:1-8) The psalmist wrote, O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. - Psalm 63:1 (NRSV) This morning, a friend told me that she had attended a presentation by a famous Bible teacher. She said she enjoyed it; but she wants to go back to her Bible soon and to dig deeper into the passages that were covered, allowing more time for the truth to soak in. Her weekend experience reminded her of a marathon runner who grabs a cup of water, gulps it down, and tosses the cup away. She asked me to pray that she would soon find time to sit and sip. I love my friends metaphor. I need time with God as much as I need water. Like my friend, I am better off grabbing a few minutes here and there and attending an occasional group study experience than I am doing nothing at all. These opportunities keep me functioning when I am on the run just as gulps of water keep the marathon runner from collapsing. But when a race is over, runners sit down to big meals and lots of fluids to give their bodies fuel for recovery. The race that is our lives will not be over until we die, so my friend and I must find time to pause and drink in Gods presence. We run our best race when we take time to be with God. Prayer: Dear God, thank you for always being available to us. Help us to consistently make time to soak in your love and truth. Amen. Prayer Focus: Runners
