Thought for the Day: Unpleasant events in life, whether they are - TopicsExpress

Thought for the Day: Unpleasant events in life, whether they are expected or unexpected can disturb our inner being. Those which are expected can wear us down from dread; while, those which are unexpected are so shocking and catch us by surprise. We react in a variety of ways, one of which is anger and hostility. I know that it is part of the process; but, we should realize that when we are acting out our rage, it affects all those with whom we come in contact. Worrying about the situation does not help; neither does it help heal. It only worsens the way that we see our plight. Worrying gnaws slowly at our soul. It begins with a slight worry but continues its gnawing until finally, we have been completely consumed and our life has become nothing but a shell of insecurity and paranoia. When we realize that our anger to those around us does not accomplish anything and our worrying has been fruitless, we often turn our hostility toward God. We think that He does not care what we are going through and we stop our communication with Him so that we don’t even pray. And, our self-destructive thoughts and actions are almost complete unless…we remove ourselves from that track. The Apostle Paul encourages us in the midst of suffering not to let the devil or anyone else steal our joy. It is in the middle of the trial that God offers us a joy and a peace that passes all understanding which will guard our hearts from self-consuming anger and anxiety. So, let us turn our hearts away from consternation and rejoice not in ourselves but rejoice in that which outside of ourselves, the Lord. Let us trade our anger from gentleness and our worry for prayer; then we will be able to offer God thanksgiving; for then we will not be robbed of our joy and our peace of heart will be restored.
