Thought for the day: 20 year old Allen Iverson was a kid raised by a single teenage mother who witnessed his first murder at the age of 8. He was convicted of a felony in HS using a little known Virginia statute that was only applied to lynchings. It took the Governor to pardon and a court of appeals to overturn for insufficient evidence. But AI was a thug that portended a new thug NBA era. 21 year old Johnny Manziel was raised by a family who had old, oil money. He was arrested for 3 misdemeanors while trying to protect a friend who had just used a racial slur. He accepted a half game suspension for an inadvertent rules violation because he was smart enough to set up a system around himself to not get caught. And he underwent counseling for substance abuse and anger issues. But Johnny Football drove fundraising to new heights for A&M athletics and has very few folks even talking about character issues or whether he is mature enough to lead an NFL franchise. Wonder what the difference is here?
