Thought for the day from Mother LaRae For my thoughts are not - TopicsExpress

Thought for the day from Mother LaRae For my thoughts are not your thoughts, * nor your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, * so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. As I said this canticle as part of my morning devotion, when I came to this phrase, I gave a little sigh of relief. Thank God that my thoughts are not Gods thoughts nor my ways Gods ways! For me, life is complicated and, while I do the best I can, I sometimes feel as though I bumble through it. With the grace of God, I trust that when I get to the end of the day I have done some good in the world and a minimal amount of harm. This morning I was praying for those who are ill, suffering, alone and outcast and I began to think of all the issues that went into these global problems. For a flash of a moment I was overwhelmed with the futility of it all. I gave thanks that God is not overwhelmed or ready to throw in the towel on us. God keeps all of the sorrowful and joyful in one thought knowing that this is the divine creation. All of the wars and celebrations, births and deaths, moments of despair and joy are held as one with God. The second Song of Isaiah continues: So is my word that goes forth from my mouth; * it will not return to me empty; but it will accomplish that which I have purposed, * and prosper in that for which I sent it. The word of God tells us that God is faithful, just and true shall not be overcome in a world that can easily overwhelm us. We, as hopeful and faithful people of God, do what we can knowing that there is someone that sees the bigger picure. God is set upon a rock higher than I am and that which we do is worthy, redeemable and watched over with all of history as a perspective. It is Monday morning, the rest of the week is ahead of us and we do not know what it will bring forth. Yet as I start this day the last hymn from the Sunday Eucharist is still in my heart: Rejoice, Rejoice, rejoice give thanks and sing! This morning I will, in all things, rejoice knowing that there is a God with the bigger picture and understanding of this crazy world in which I live.
