MARYLAND GYMNAST HOLDS HER OWN AGAINST THE WORLD’S BEST Toni-Ann Williams, a senior at Roland Park Country School, placed 45th in the all-around at the World Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium on Wednesday. Against 134 top athletes from 57 countries, including U.S. Olympians McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross, Williams placed 37th on floor exercise and 38th on vault. A fall off the beam hurt her score in spite of her impressive dismount, the competition’s only double tuck front. Williams, who retains dual citizenship, is the first athlete to compete internationally for Jamaica in women’s artistic gymnastics. In addition to representing that nation at the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo, she has earned various state, regional, and national titles in the U.S. Junior Olympic program. Williams trains at United Gymnastix in Reisterstown, and has verbally committed to the University of California-Berkeley.
