Thoughtful Thursday: Desktop vs Laptop vs Tablet which is better for you? Traditional desktop computers (PCs) - Some think the PC is on or has been on its way out for a while. We say not on your life. This type of computer can be bulky and even downright ugly, so bad that you stick it in a cabinet to hide it. However, the part you see is just the shell and what is inside will make all the difference. These types of PCs can be modified, altered, added to, taken away from, built up and even expanded to create a PC that can have your friends and family wanting. Gamers know all about the modifications to the traditional PC. Laptops are portable, convenient and can be an extension of our busy and sometimes hectic lives. This type of computer can only be modified in terms of adding extra RAM (memory modules) or by increasing the hard drive capacity. Unless you purchase a high end laptop your gaming abilities are often limited and you experience lag or slow even choppy video graphics. The nice feature of this type of computer is that you do not always have to have a constant power source with you. By purchasing an extended cell battery you can extend the use of your laptop for a few extra hours, before the next recharge. Repairs are often more costly than those on a traditional PC. Tablets are also portable and can fit into almost any purse, or case we may need it to fit into. The storage capacity is not quite extensive as a laptop or PC. These are almost disposable in terms of costly repairs. When you are looking to replace an older computer you really need to sit down with someone and figure out exactly what you need. You can ask yourself questions and help make that decision. 1. What do you really need a computer to do for you? 2. Do you need to take your computer to work? School? Or out just for personal enjoyment? 3. What type of applications do you need to run on your computer on a daily basis? 4. How often do you want to replace your computer? Those are the 4 basic questions to ask yourself when you are looking to purchase a new computer. You can also stop in at either of our locations (Skiatook or Collinsville) and talk with one of us and we would be more than willing to sit down with you and talk about your options or answer any questions you may have. If you have any other comments about the differences please comment as well.
