Thousands of race-goers stream out of Randwick Racecourse sometime - TopicsExpress

Thousands of race-goers stream out of Randwick Racecourse sometime in the early 1920s. Trams to the racecourse ran from Circular Quay and Central Station. The tram system was capable of massive people-moving feats. During one Sydney Cup meeting in this period 82,000 spectators were moved to and from the course on the same day as 170,000 people were transported to and from the Easter Show. The loading facilities at the racecourse were elaborate. There were six platforms. Only two of these were used for the incoming crowds (because their arrival was staggered over a relatively long period) but all six platforms loaded passengers during the short exit period, the passengers loading on both sides of the cars.
