Thr1ve, November 5 - Last Friday seems like Everyday... I suppose it was the only Halloween night of my young 48 years when absolutely no one came. Adam visited 5 houses on our block - yet he was the only one willing to brave the elements. It wasn’t ’trick-or-treat’ night… more like RETREAT night! Our fully stocked candy bucket remained unchanged. The weather: cold, rainy, blustery and bleak. The family from Georgia who recently moved in just two doors down gave Adam extra candy, saying, “You are the first trick or treater I’ve had in 40 years - our last house wasn’t close to the road so we never saw anyone.” The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth... He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.” John 1:14, 11 Like the compassionate father looking for his lost son... waiting to bless, eager to forgive, mighty to save... day after day, grace simply waits. Why is love unrequited when it is simply so accessible? Why do we choose the costly home of ‘myself’ when free are the quarters of ‘my Lord and my God’? Our authentic home isn’t hidden behind a monthly mortgage and daily maintenance… it’s rich in heavenly anticipation. Veritable and deferred only by faith itself. Receive the One you have seen the glory of. Return home... prodigals and prodigies. Know grace - know good - know God. “Perhaps in a fallen world the social problem can in fact never be solved and we must take more seriously - what all Christians admit in theory - that our home is elsewhere.” - C.S. Lewis
