Three- “When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there” The monotheist value of the sanctity of property above the sanctity of people rears its ugly head yet again in the guise of misguided old-guard Satanism. What qualifies as a ‘lair’? Who is deciding what can qualify as a ‘lair’? How did they come into this ‘lair’? Ownership (or even habitation) of property is not a reason to automatically respect someone- especially when the dubious means through which one acquires property in our society require individuals to appeal to the Godlike authorities of bankers and politicians. This statement is so vague that it could be interpreted any number of self-serving and antisocial ways- it could be used as false justification for the eviction of impoverished tenants to make a greater profit on a property, or it could falsely imply that political prisoners should respect the incarcerating institution which denies them freedom. On the other hand, one could argue that the entire Earth is a ‘lair’ that we all collectively inhabit, and for one to inhabit the Earth, one must respect all other life sharing it. The Anarcho-Satanist should strongly consider disrespecting state-based and God-based property laws with the intention of implementing greater social justice, and should not hold to a misplaced respect for property owners. Respect is yours to give as you see fit- judge carefully who earns it, and let not a person’s material wealth or property ownership overwhelm or intimidate your better reason. (An important note- nowhere is the misogynistic framework of the Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth more troubling than here- the implication that male property owners deserve respect by default is a dangerous and shameful capitulation to hierarchical social stratification and monotheistic patriarchal power dynamics.)
