Three dot journalism from a free weekend of HBO/Cinemax: Behind The Candelabra was the last thing I expected it to be, and exactly the one thing it should never ever have been – thoroughly and completely boring…If you like Veep, I highly recommend renting (sorry, “viewing”) The Comeback. It’s very similar in tone (including how disconcertingly uneven that tone is) as well as in subject matter to a fair extent, (the indignities of second banana status in politics and entertainment evidently match up well), and Lisa Kudrow was as just good as Julia Louis-Dreyfus is, which is to say exceptional, though unlike the Larry Sanders show, a little bit of either show goes a long way for me…Funny how almost everything –OK fine, everything - I ended up taping (sorry, “DVRing”) off the concurrent free Cinemax preview started after midnight. Coincidence, I’m sure…I’d forgotten how great Team America World Police was. Any random 20 minutes yielder more original (and totally genius) humor than the last two seasons of South Park and all of Book of Mormon combined. Matt Stone and Trey Parker at their best – “F*** Yeah!”
