Three-game series in Fresno, California The last team in the league to play a home game, the Fresno Monsters finally open up at Gateway Ice Center with a three-game set against the San Diego Gulls. Just a few months ago, there was serious doubt over whether Fresno would even have a hockey team this season but behind the hard work of many, including head coach Bryce Dale, the WSHL Monsters were able to help keep their home rink open and the fans will surely continue to come out in droves to support them. Giving fans even more reason to come out is the fact that the Monsters look just as dominant as ever, jumping out to a record of 11-1-0 (with all of those games coming on the road, mind you) and claiming their usual spot atop the Western Division. The team features 13 returners, including a number of top defensemen but the star so far has without a doubt been first-year forward Mike Nolan, who leads the team in goals (12) assists (15) and points (27).
