Through discernment of the spiritual opposite of materiality, even the way through Christ, Truth, man will reopen with the key of divine Science the gates of Paradise which human beliefs have closed, and will find himself unfallen, upright, pure, and free, not needing to consult almanacs for the probabilities either of his life or of the weather, not needing to study brainology to learn how much of a man he is. Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy, pg. 171 This truth was vividly illustrated in the experience of a student of Christian Science. During a bicycling tour he had been meditating on the passage from our textbook quoted above, when suddenly he found himself confronted with some twenty miles of uphill road and a strong head wind. The journey had to be completed in a definite time, and no other means of transport were available. His first tendency was to allow his consciousness to be filled with thoughts of frustration and annoyance; then he realized the significance of the passage he had been considering. What he had to do was to find the counterfact of the difficulties confronting him. The material senses told him that wind was offering obstruction and was retarding his progress. What was wind in reality? Certainly not an obstructing force, for he remembered the spiritual meaning of the word as given by Mrs. Eddy in the Glossary in Science and Health (p. 597): That which indicates the might of omnipotence and the movements of Gods spiritual government, encompassing all things. There came into this students mind the realization that it is the function of Spirit to attract, and therefore he was being drawn irresistibly to Spirit; that the same force which attracted could not, at one and the same time, repel. The counterfact had been applied. And with what results! The wind still blew, but the students concept of it had changed. He felt renewed strength and a great sense of freedom from all the frustration and annoyance that had beset him. The return journey that he had so dreaded was accomplished with ease, gratitude, and joy. to read more.. ~> sentinel.christianscience/shared/view/hl31zpv2d2?s=t
