#ThrowbackThursday #TBT #onthisday This day back in 2010 proved to be a memorable day for the late Sir Henry Cecil as he scored a high-profile double at Newmarket where the great Frankel won the Dewhurst Stakes while Twice Over triumphed in the following race on the card, the Champion Stakes. Frankel was extremely impressive as he recorded a two-and-a-quarter length victory at HQ, with Roderic O’Connor behind. Held up towards the rear under Tom Queally, Frankel made his move as he was switched right over two furlongs out and quickly made headway, taking the lead with one furlong remaining and went through the gears to leave the opposition in his wake. After the victory, the late trainer said: “I’ve never had a horse work like him as a two-year-old and the last one I remember who was similar would be Arazi. He goes into a sixth gear. If he was a Formula One car hed win everything unless I was driving him.” Queally scored the quick-fire double on-board Twice Over in the next race, winning by just under two lengths in a field which included Wigmore Hall and Poet’s Voice. Debussy set the early pace while Queally and Twice Over were always prominent and ready to strike, and did so with just over a furlong remaining, to record an impressive victory.
