Thyroid and Fluoride Your thyroid requires a nutrient called iodine in order to make its hormones that in turn run the energy production (and thus work) of every cell in your body. Fluoride competes with iodine for absorption by the thyroid gland. Thats a huge problem, and part of why so many Americans have inadequate thyroid function.
