Tiki Taka football seems to be the buzzword in football coaching - TopicsExpress

Tiki Taka football seems to be the buzzword in football coaching over recent years and that is because of the domination of Barcelona and Spain using this method of football coaching philosophy. Tiki Taka basically means ‘many touches’ and the ideas behind it can be traced back to the ‘total football’ style of the 1970′s Netherlands and Ajax team. Total football worked on every player being comfortable with possession of the ball and the ability for a player to move into another tactical position that has been vacated by a team mate. This ensures that the team keeps their intended organisational structure. This places a big emphasise on the technical ability of every player in the squad to play in numerous positions. With Tiki Taka football the emphasis is on retaining the ball and being comfortable in possession. If done correctly you are practically playing piggy in the middle with the other team spending all their energy trying to win the ball back. There is a misconception that Tiki Taka football is about passing and moving, where as in actual fact in possession of the ball Barcelona players make very little movement and just keep the ball away from the opposition until they tire themselves out. The video below shows a good analysis of this in action (note how players work hard to get into a position to give the player in possession an option but once they are in position they move very little)
