Times Media Journalism Training Programme 2014 By: Site Editor on OCT 10 If you are a recent graduate, a South African citizen under 30, have initiative and curiousity, excellent English Language writing skills and a strong committement to a career in journalism with Times Mdia we’d like to meet you, If you are successful in your application you will have an opportunity to get practical journalism skills and to receive training in Courts and Law and Local and Provincial Government reporting. This internship runs from 3 February – 31 December 2014. A monthly stipend will be paid to successful candidates. If you are accepted onto the programme your training will consist of formal and informal training sessions, hands-on practical sessions and coaching as well as experiential training periods with various news operations in the company. While the initial training will take place in Johannesburg you may be posted to other centres during your internship. You will be required to build a portfolio of the work you do. We cannot guarantee a job after your training contract but if you have demonstrated commitment and journalistic skill you will be prioritised for junior journalist positions that may become available in the company. Preference will be given to candidates who will add to the diversity of the company. How to apply: Download the application form and complete it Write an essay of not more than 600 words on the topic: Who cares? Politics, Elections and SA’s young generation. The essay must be typed using a computer and double spacing and must demonstrate evidence of research. It should contain facts and quotes. It must be written in a clear and coherent journalistic – not academic – style and be entirely your own original work.
