Tip of the Day... Ive always heard its good to chew your food - TopicsExpress

Tip of the Day... Ive always heard its good to chew your food thoroughly before swallowing. I figured it was only because it was easier to digest. Thats part of it, but theres another part thats equally important... Hunger is your brains way of telling your body it needs something. When you eat, your saliva evaluates the food that youre eating and sends signals to your brain informing it of the nutritional content in the food youve just eaten. Chewing your food thoroughly will allow your saliva to send more accurate information to your brain as opposed to taking a bite and swallowing your food whole. When your brain receives signals that youve gotten enough of the nutrients required to function, it will send out a signal giving you the feeling of satiation. This is what causes you to feel full... Eating foods with a high nutritional content will allow your body to get the nutrients it needs by eating less. If the foods you eat are low or lacking nutritional content, you may not ever get to the point of satiation or feeling full. Instead you will keep eating until your stomach fills up and you are uncomfortable. Eating too fast without chewing your food can also lead to eating too much, as there is a delay in the time between eating your food, and the brain deciding youve received the nutrients you need. Example, you will get full faster eating chicken, brown rice, and steamed vegetables, then you will eating Oreos or pizza... Bottom line... Eat foods with high nutritional content and take the time to chew and enjoy your food.
