Tipping and prejudice. As an owner you want to provide excellent - TopicsExpress

Tipping and prejudice. As an owner you want to provide excellent service to as many people as humanly possible and do not want an incentive system rewarding pre-judgement. Ive recently seen a presentation by a Canadian professor which caused me to rethink my opinion. His points were 1. Tipping is usually predetermined before the service is even performed 2. They identified several demographics as the best and worse tippers. 3 The study concluded that as these demographics perceive worse service, tips get worse, as the tips go down, more prejudgement happens thus worse service and the cycle spirals downward. The argument was to include the tip as part of the service. IE instead of a $20 mens cut do $24 and earmark $4 for the stylist. What are your thoughts?
