Tips and Tricks - Keeping spares for your tank. Imagine it is 11 pm and you are checking your tank before you go to bed and find either the heater has packed up the filter has stopped running or the air pump is not working - PANICK will set in very quickly! Let us assume the tank is cracked and water is leaking out, well you could at least move your fish into the bath overnight. You will at various times be buying extra fish for you main tank and you should not just put them into your main tank with your known healthy fish, neither should you add the water that they came in. Even though you bought them from the LFS and the nice man said they are all healthy, this is not what he should be telling you. He should say that they may appear healthy but advise you to put them in a quarantine tank when you get home just in case and at the same time give a course of wormer etc As an example how many people have gotten onto an aeroplane perfectly healthy and got off with a serious disease! So the answer is you should be running a quarantine tank anyway so this also covers you for spares if an air stone, heater etc goes down.
