Tired of complaining- Going to do something about it. NDP budget update confirms Nova Scotians are maxed out Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie says today’s budget forecast update shows taxpayers need a break from the NDP’s expensive taxing and spending sprees. The forecast shows expected revenue from HST and motive fuel tax for 2013-14 is dropping as Nova Scotians are forced to shop less and even drive less. “It’s too expensive for people to shop. It’s too expensive for them to drive. Jobs are being lost, and the NDP has taken a billion dollars more from families,” say Baillie. “The NDP may think that’s okay but their priorities are not Nova Scotians’ priorities.” Financial statements released last month show the NDP collected $1 billion more in HST and personal income taxes in 2012 than in 2009 when they were first elected. Baillie says people are struggling, especially in rural Nova Scotia and it’s time to put families first. “An update to a fantasy budget is still a fantasy. This budget wasn’t balanced in April and it’s still not balanced. The NDP have no plan to give families the relief they need,” says Baillie. “The NDP government’s spending is out of control. They keep adding to our debt with no plan to pay for it.” Baillie says the Liberals are just like the NDP. “Stephen McNeil will not commit to lowering taxes and giving families a break,” said Baillie. “Just like the NDP, the Liberals will continue to spend more than taxpayers can afford and keep passing on more debt to our children.” In the last election, Stephen McNeil made $530 million in spending commitments with no plan to pay for them. Baillie says a PC government will lower taxes like the HST, freeze power rates for five years, stop wasteful government spending and create more jobs in order to put money back in people’s pockets and kick-start the economy.
