To Garinagu on Reparations! Due to the ignorance of certain agreements entered into by Britain and France with Garinagu, the only agreement entered into by Britain with Native Caribbeans who had mostly been decimated by Europeans, Garinagu lost their lands after it was entered by greedy colonial plantation owners. They apparently felt they had a right to take over the land because Garinagu in their estimation were not using the land as efficiently as they could so they believed. Over time the plantation owners gave our lands to the descendants of slaves they brought in to work their plantations. It is established they owe us for our land lost! But we lost more than land. We lost our economy, our way of life, We lost our continuity as a nation. Through time our culture is under a lot of pressure from the outside. We are being pressured to assimilate and lose our identity. It will take more resources than we have due to such losses to put it back together. We need to Establish our economy again in the Garifuna Nation. We need to establish our continuity of culture again. This time the task is monumental because it needs to be done across the borders of many nations now instead of our home land Yurumein. Because we are scattered across so many different borders now and being pressured by the dominant society to assimilate, we must form a Central Garifuna Government. This is our right even recognized by the Human rights Convention and the United Nations Rights of Indigenous Peoples Declaration. Look the governments of the nations in which we live maybe with the exception of the United States, are not meeting our needs as a Nation. We must take the responsibility not leave it up to them. So in order to coordinate across so many different borders, We need a Central Garifuna Nation! That is the only way we have a chance in hell of saving our future and Nation.
