To Whom It May Concern: It may have been hard to miss the events of this past week for me, but in case you have: my car was stolen, I wrote a ridiculously sarcastic letter, and I was on the news. Throughout this week I have heard a variety of responses to my car being stolen and the letter I wrote. I have been told that it is my fault for having so many possessions in my car, that my car was stolen simply to carry my things, that I lack common sense. I have been told that I am a bad example of a teacher for writing the things I did, that I should be ashamed for not teaching love and compassion, that I am spiteful. I have been told that teachers are full of themselves and that I should not brag about my profession because my colleagues and I are failing the future of our country. I have also been surrounded with love by friends and family from Utah to New Hampshire, California to Florida, Arizona to Australia. I have received dozens of emails and tweets from strangers with well wishes. I have been told that I have been a great example for my students on how to face adversity. I have been told that I am intelligent, articulate, and poised. I would like to thank my friends for realizing the absurdity of the situation and welcoming my ups and downs all week, doing all they could to listen, take my mind of things, drive me to work, and express unending concern and support. I would like to thank my parents for allowing their 28 year-old-daughter call them in a fit of panic first thing in the morning when she didnt know what else to do or where else to turn. I would like to thank my boyfriend for leaving work as soon as he heard the news, for making sure I never felt alone, accepting my moodiness, letting me cry, and making me laugh. It has without a doubt been a rough week, but we all know it could have been worse. I appreciate all the reality checks and kind words alike.
