To a Conservative friend: I know you are an animal activist and care about animals. Which confounds me, as you are also adamant in your support for conservatives. While individual conservatives, such as yourself, can be caring and empathetic people, and love animals, the philosophy they support is the enemy of animals. Conservative legislators are opposed to all we do in the Animal Rights movement. They continually block any attempts to make the slaughter industries less cruel. In the name of free enterprise they oppose slowing down slaughter lines. Nevermind that slowing them down would prevent live calves and cattle from having their legs chainsawed off while still conscious and would prevent live chickens being boiled to death. They oppose moves to ban gestation crates, the cruel confinement of sows for their entire lives, being prevented from even turning around or sretching. Conservatives know such a ban would increase costs of meat production and impact the profits of Big Agriculture. My question is why are you a conservative? Is business more important to you than animals? Do you think industry should be able to practice cruelty to make more money? Are you into guns, or hate gay people, or afraid of Blacks? What is more important to you than stopping cruelty to animals?
